Teacher Tuesday – Meet Miss Hillis

Miss Hillis joined the SJS community in September and teaches some of our youngest students in the AM/PM Pre-K class.  Miss Hillis has an A.A.S. from HVCC in Early Childhood Education and a Dual Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood and Special Education with a concentration in English from The College of Saint Rose. She has six years of experience in the field of education. She grew her interest in teaching after volunteering as a Special Olympics Assistant Coach during her senior year of high school. Miss Hillis has student taught and worked with Head Start, and several public schools in the capital district as a Teacher Assistant, Toddler Teacher, Substitute Teacher and UPK Teacher. Miss Hillis’ goal is to earn her master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Literacy.

When Miss Hillis is not busy teaching you’ll probably find her outside somewhere in her hometown of Grafton kayaking or hiking with her dogs. Miss Hillis also enjoys traveling, baking, spending time with her family on the family farm, going to the movies, and curling (the Olympic sport).
She has been a wonderful addition to our school community and is adored by her students!
