News Notes – May 11, 2018

Exciting News – Tuition raffles went home this past week. Take a chance on winning $5,000.00! Volunteers are needed to help sell tickets after all Masses. Please visit www.signupgenius.com/go/508084FA9AF22A7FC1-raffle to sign up.

 

May Crowning – Our annual Crowning of Mary will take place on Monday, May 14th during the 8AM mass at St. Jude the Apostle Church. Students who recently made their First Holy Communion will have a special role in this ceremony. All are welcome to attend.

 

Catholic Central Field Day – On Thursday, May 17th we will be joining CCHS and a few other catholic schools for their annual field day. All permission slips are due by Tuesday, May 15th. Any student who does not send in a permission slip by Tuesday, May 15th will not be able to attend and will need to stay home on the day of the field trip. Lunch will be provided and will consist of a hot dog, chips and juice. No chaperones are needed for this trip. All K-6 staff will be in attendance. If your child does not like the lunch provided they should bring a lunch with them.

 

Color Run – Promotional items only guaranteed if you sign up before Saturday, May 5th. To register and for more information go to events.myschoolcolorrun.com. The color run will take place on Saturday, May 19th.

2017-18 Year Books Are Here! – We are selling the 2017-18 year books until they are gone. You may purchase one for $15.00 or two (2) for $25.00. Please make checks payable to St. Jude the Apostle School. Place your order by June 1st and books will be distributed by June 7th.

 

Optional Spring Uniform – Girls may wear tan skorts with green polo shirt, tan socks and dress shoes. Boys may wear tan shorts with green polo shirt, tan socks and dress shoes. This uniform may NOT be worn to Mass. Dress uniform is required for Mass.

 

Car Wash Fundraiser for 6th Grade Class Trip – Need a clean car? Join our 6th grade class for a car wash on Saturday, May 12 from 10AM to 4PM at Auto Zone on Pawling Ave. The fundraiser will support their trip to Nature’s Classroom.

 

Gently Used Uniform – If your child has outgrown their uniform you may donate it to our gently used uniform closet. In June we will have a gently used uniform sale.

 

Fourth Grade New York State Science Test – Thursday, May 24th: Performance/Hands on Assessment. (Not June 1) Monday, June 4th: Written Assessment-multiple choice and short answer. Students should get a good night’s sleep and be sure to eat breakfast. Please try to not schedule any appointments during these times.

 

Help Needed – If you are in need of some service commitment hours the following events are in need of some extra hands. These are the last events for the year.  A total of 15 hours is required for families in grades K-6 or $1,000.00 will be added to your 2017-18 May tuition. Please follow the link to sign up. Only a few more events to choose from! If you have a couple of hours during the day you can earn some hours helping out at lunch time!

Author’s Club – Days added to finish up: Tuesday, May 15th, Wednesday, and May 16th. Pick up time is 3:30PM.

 

Re-Registration – Please submit your registration with a $100.00 non-refundable registration fee. Pre-K classes are filling quickly. If you are interested in Pre-K please register early. Our Kindergarten class is filling up quickly too!

 

St. Jude Financial Aid – In order to receive any financial aid from St. Jude School for grades K-6 you must fill out an application through FACTS. You may apply by going to https://secure.factstuition.com/facts/gaindex. When applying you will need 2016 and 2017 tax return information. There is a $30.00 fee when applying. When your application is complete you will have to meet with Mrs. Cox to discuss your application. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

 

North Greenbush Memorial Day Parade – St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Community will be joining the North Greenbush Memorial Day Parade on May 28th. St. Jude families are invited to join us. Watch for more details coming soon!

 

2018 Graduations on Monday, June 18th:

Pre-K               9:00AM(Last day of schooled Friday, June 15th)

Kindergarten    1:00PM (This is their last day of school)

6th Grade          7:00PM (This is their last day of school-11AM dismissal.)

 

Class Bundl/School Supplys’ for the 2018-19 School Year – We are in the process of setting up a new system for school supplies. More information will be coming home soon!

 

Child Travels Safely Event – This event will be held at Gardner-Dickinson School on Thursday, May 24th from 5 to 7PM. Bring your child’s bicycle, scooter, and helmet and ride the safety course. Meet our local law enforcement officers from the NYSP, NGPD, Rensselaer Sheriffs and Albany County Sheriffs drone unit. Learn about distracted walking, safe biking, safe bus riding, and other safety ideas for children.

 

 

Soda Tabs For Ronald McDonald House – Our Unity friends in Pre-K are collecting soda can tabs for Ronald McDonald House from now until the end of the school year. Please send your tabs to the front office and we will make sure our Unity friends receive them.

 

COLONIE CENTER SCHOOL BUCKS:  We are currently in 5th place!  

Until June, every time you, your family or friends shop at Colonie Center St. Jude the Apostle School can be credited with “school bucks”.   Just bring your original cash register receipts from ANY Colonie Center store, restaurant or movie theater to the mall’s Management Office, Monday-Friday 9:00AM-4:30PM or School Bucks Drop Box located at the customer service desk by the escalator between Menchie’s and Five Guys (Please complete form and include receipts in an envelope marked from St. Jude the Apostle School before dropping in the box. When using the drop box your receipts will not be returned).  You can also submit your receipts to St. Jude’s School receipt drop off envelope located in the school lobby.  The school’s volunteer coordinator, Mrs. Hunter, will be happy to submit your receipts for you.  Extra Bonus School Bucks can be earned * TRIPLE POINTS * for purchases made at Colonie Center’s new stores: Carter’s, H&M and Boxlunch.  Thanks to everyone for supporting our school with your Colonie Center purchases.

Quest for God Catholic Retreat at the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs in Auriesville, NY on Saturday, May 5th, 2018. Open to anyone in the scouting movement or parish Youth Ministry Programs. There is an option to camp out Friday & Saturday Nights. Registration begins at 9AM and concludes with Mass/Awards presentation with Bishop Scharfenberger at 7PM. Major Announcement from Bishop Edward Scharfenberger
Bishop Edward Scharfenberger has announced that the diocese will be holding a major event this fall: The Hearts Aflame Eucharistic Congress.
Hearts Aflame will be held on Saturday, September 22, at the Shrine of the North American Martyrs in Auriesville. It is for all Catholics to gather in prayer with our bishop, centered on Jesus in the Eucharist. It will be a time of prayer, fellowship, and unity.
