St. Jude the Apostle School 2nd Annual Tuition Raffle – Tickets are $20.00 each for a chance to win a $5,000.00 grant which may be applied to tuition at the school of your choice-elementary, high school, or even college! Do you have other areas where you would like to spend $5,000.00? The raffle winner may choose to receive $5,000.00 cash prize in lieu of the grant. All ticket purchases should be sent in weekly so that we can keep track of ticket sales.

St. Jude School is Partnering with Siena College Students and IPH (Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless) for Homeless Awareness Month – Their mission statement, “Homeless, not Hopeless”. We will be collecting boxes of tissue, hand sanitizer and Clorox disinfecting wipes from Tuesday, 10/29 to Wednesday, 11/13. There will be a dress-down day on 11/13 for students who bring in a monetary donation or one of the above items.

Save Around Book – If you have not purchased or turned in the book it will be added to your FACTS account under incidentals.

Thanksgiving Luncheon Reservation for 11/26/19 – The Thanksgiving Luncheon Reservation form was sent home to the oldest child in the family. Only FOUR guests per family can be invited due to the number of students we have in the school. The cost per person (including students) is $7.00. North Colonie Lunch Program will not be serving lunches that day so if your child/children do not wish to order the Thanksgiving meal then you will need to send them with a packed lunch. All reservations with payment need to be returned no later than Monday, 11/18. There will be no exceptions due to the fact that we need to make seating arrangements and order the food. Please make checks payable to St. Jude the Apostle School. A signup sheet to volunteer during and after the luncheon was sent home. If you need volunteer hours for your service commitment this is a good time to sign up!

Catapult Learning Parent Workshop – The Catholic School Office, in partnership with Catapult Learning, will be presenting a one-hour workshop for parents entitled, “Building Responsibility and Resiliency in Children.”

Parents have the option of attending the workshop on November 6th at 6:30 pm at St. Mary’s School in Ballston Spa, or on November 12th at 6:30 pm at All Saints Catholic Academy in Albany. Admission is free and open to all parents and guardians of our students.

Snow Days/Delays – The policies we follow at St. Jude the Apostle School for snow days and delays will be communicated to families using the following methods as soon as a decision is made:

  1. Announcement on all LOCAL radio and television stations along with the websites associated with those stations (WNYT, WRGB, WTEN, The Times Union, FLY 92, B95.5, WGNA, The River, etc.)
  2. A “SwiftK12” email AND text blast will be sent to all families (phone calls WILL NOT be made). Forms were sent home for any changes (phone/email)-please return with changes.
  3. Posting on social media (Facebook, Instagram)

In the event of a 2 hour delay, the school doors will be opened at 9:30am. Students should not be dropped off any earlier than 9:30am and should never be left unattended at the front door. For the safety of our faculty and staff, they are not expected to arrive before 9:30am.

It is unlikely SJS will have an early dismissal due to weather; HOWEVER individual school districts may make the decision to close early and will send a bus to pick up students. If your local school district (district of residence) decides to have an early dismissal and your child normally rides the bus, they will be dismissed when the bus arrives. We will do our best to communicate this to you using SwiftK12, but it is truly the responsibility of the parent/guardian to stay connected through local radio, television and websites. Many websites now have the ability to send notifications for a district of your choosing. If you choose to not have your child ride the bus home in the event of an early dismissal by your district, you must communicate this to the school office in a timely manner.

Please know that CASE (Community After School Enrichment Program) is always an option for you and your child. Students are welcome to stay here at school until transportation can be provided. The daily drop-in rate for CASE is $20.

Knights of Columbus (KOC) – The St Jude the Apostle Knights of Columbus has teamed up with 6 Center Redemption Center located at 461 Main Street in Wynantskill to accept qualifying bottle and can donations to support local charities and those in need. Simply bring your clean, qualifying empties to 6 Center Redemption in Wynantskill and say they are to support the St Jude Knights of Columbus. They’ll do the rest! That’s it!

The next KOC “All You Can Eat Breakfast” will be held on 11/17/19. Thanks for your support.

Spirit Monkey Key Chains are still available – If you are still interested in purchasing a Spirit Monkey Key Chain for your child/children please send the order form with $5.00 for each key chain in as soon as possible. We will be selling some fun spirit sticks for the key chains during lunch periods on Fridays, for $1.00 each.
