5th Grade learns about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit

For Religion class these past two weeks, the 5th graders have been learning about The Gifts of the Holy Spirit and the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are:
Wisdom: Helps us to know God’swill for our lives
Understanding: Enables us to know the teachings of our Catholic faith
Counsel: Helps us to know what is right and to make good choices
Fortitude: Strengthens us to be witnesses of Jesus Christa to defend the Catholic faith
Knowledge: Helps us to know that God is more important than anything else in life
Piety: helps us to love and respect God and all that he has created
Fear of the Lord: inspires us to be filled with love and reverence for God and to be grateful for all the blessings he has given us
The Fruits of the Holy Spirit are the signs that the Holy Spirit is working in our lives. These include: charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control, and chastity.
The students worked on posters after learning about these gifts given to us by God. Most of the Religion curriculum for 5th grade concentrates on the 7 Sacraments of our Catholic Church, but our lessons also lead us to learning about God’s Gifts of mercy, love, understanding, forgiveness, and compassion, just to name a few. We also learn about many saints and how they carry on God’s message and lead us to follow God’s will. We have wonderful discussions in Religion class that help us to grow more spiritually and teach us to become God’s disciples.
