On March 17th (St. Patrick’s Day) one lucky winner will receive $1,000.00 and $100.00 will go to the person who sold the $1,000.00 winning ticket. Information went home in book bags. If you need more tickets let the school office know.  May the luck of the Irish be with you!! We are still looking for volunteers to sell tickets after the weekend masses. If you need service commitment hours this would be a great opportunity to get some! Thank you Mr. Barr for chairing this event!

Snow Days and School Delays – With the anticipation of more snow storms knocking at our door, it is a good time to review the policies we follow at St. Jude the Apostle School.  Snow days and delays will be communicated to families using the following methods as soon as a decision is made:

  • Announcement on all local radio and television stations along with the websites associated with those stations (WNYT, WRGB, WTEN, The Times Union, FLY 92, B95.5, WGNA, The River, etc)
  • A SchoolMessenger email AND text blast will be sent to all families (phone calls WILL NOT be made)
  • Postings on social media (Instagram and Facebook)

It is very unlikely that there will be an early dismissal due to weather; however individual school districts may make the decision to close early and send a bus to pick up students.  If your local school district (district of residence) decides to have an early dismissal and your child normally rides the bus, they will be dismissed when the bus arrives.  We will do our best to communicate this to you using SchoolMessenger, but it is truly the responsibility of the parent/guardian to stay connected through local radio, television and websites.  Many websites now have the ability to send notifications for a district of your choosing.  If you choose to not have your child not ride the bus home in the event of an early dismissal by your district, you must communicate this to the school office in a timely manner.

Please know that CASE (Community After School Enrichment Program) is always an option for you and your child.  Students are welcome to stay here at school until transportation can be provided.  The daily drop-in rate for CASE is $16/day.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have regarding snow days, school delays and early dismissals by your local school districts.

Soda Tabs For Ronald McDonald House – Our Unity friends in Pre-K are collecting soda can tabs for Ronald McDonald House from now until the end of the school year. Please send your tabs to the front office and we will make sure our Unity friends receive them.

I Ski NY – Kids can learn to ski or snowboard for free. Go to www.iskiny.com for more information.

Lunch Time Recess – Students will be going outside for recess as long as the temperature reads 20 degrees or more and/or the wind chill states that it “feels like” it is more than 20 degrees. Your child should be prepared for outside recess. Please make sure they have coats, hats, gloves, scarves and boots. Thank you.

SEFCU School Banking – School Banking will be taking place after morning assembly each Wednesday. If your child does not have an account with SEFCU you will need to open an account for them. Pre-K students are invited to participate in school banking also. St. Jude the Apostle School is affiliated with the SEFCU across form Hudson Valley Community College. Thank you Mrs. Harris for volunteering to be our banker!

*Colonie Center wants to help you earn money for St. Jude the Apostle School!  Every time you, your family and your friends shop at Colonie Center, you can help the school earn points.  At the end of the school year, Colonie Center will give away $20,000 in cash prizes to the top 10 schools, and we want to be one of them. We are currently in 6th place! It’s easy to help- Bring your original cash register receipts from ANY Colonie Center store, restaurant or movie theater to the mall’s Guest Services (located on the lower level by Five Guys) and St. Jude the Apostle school will receive 1 SCHOOL BUCKS POINT for EVERY dollar spent!  You can also submit your receipt to St. Jude’s School (or Church) receipt drop off envelope located in the school (or church) lobby.  The school’s volunteer coordinator, Mrs. Hunter will be happy to submit your receipts on a weekly and/or monthly basis.  Thank you Mrs. Hunter and Carly Hunter (grade 5) for all you do!
